"It's Not a Crime..."
You’re probably on the bandwagon, the leaders of which state the downfall of LittleBigPlanet
is entirely because of heart-for-hearting. Well… that’s for you to decide. You can say it’s the reason that nobody has great levels anymore, or the reason why the entire community
is lacklustre. I beg to differ… I don’t see anything wrong with this trading of virtual approval. Not that I would do it, no, but there are people who do. People who use the game differently, so to speak. It’s a little pretentious to go about, exclaiming that you don’t H4H, or you’re “Anti-H4H”, and people who H4H are most certainly not the nadir of the game. Take a look around at the copied levels… produce of H4H? I think not. If anything, we all need to show a little more love around here.
For starters, you can argue that creators *earn* these hearts, like a symbol of their worth. This is true to some extent… but are we subject to the falsehood that you cannot differentiate a worthy creator against a H4Her? Things that give it away: decent profile picture, tidy levels, nice pins. If you can seriously allow the two to cross, then you have the problems here. The best of us should ignore this apartheid of creators who solely thrive on hearts through hearting others and receiving hearts from those people. They play this game differently, through a network of people who care only for that too. In their eyes, most creators are just as desperate as they are – they’re just siphoning out the middleman here. No creation, just hearts. Maybe they just enjoy the feeling of achievement and I guess we do, too. Check out those levels that are churned out from popular creators… you can tell their efforts are either slowly wasted or are wasting slowly.
I’m not arguing that what they’re doing is right, but they’re just the beta versions of creators who care about criticisms and feedback, just without the whole creation aspect. They might not really appreciate creating, neither, after all it’s “play, create and share”, using “and” exclusively as an option and not “all at the same time”, like the logic function. Nope. You can get away with so much as a H4Her but it’s really nothing dire. If you have a problem about it, then you should keep creating for what you believe, not what others choose to do. After all, LittleBigPlanet is just a smaller version of planet Earth, and not everyone here is a creator. Maybe to some degree, but not as people expect on LittleBigPlanet – where noobs are scum and the talented care about themselves.
But, yes. H4H isn’t really the best way to go about earning your hearts, at least morally. For a community that “don’t care about plays, yays and hearts, it’s just fun to make the level”, we sure do like to thrive on hating a select group of people who play the game a little differently to what we do. Amazing, isn’t it?
